DJ & DRUMMING
DRUMMING TO THE BEAT OF life, a sacred potential
Frequency and dance vibe operator
DJ
My DJ career started in 2006 in Mexico, a place where I was able to make electronic music beats and DJ to create sonic soundscapes for art exhibitions in Mexico City and other smaller cities around. Moving to Canada in 2009-2010 allowed me to take this powerful craft to the next level. For many years, I played once or twice a week at clubs, bars, house parties, and all sorts of local events while living in Peterborough, ON, where I also had the fortune to meet talented DJs from whom I learned the basics about DJing and working with dance floor crowds. As time went by, I took DJing even further by starting to host and organize multi-media events that included DJs as part of the musical lineup. At that point, I realized that DJing is not only about the performance, but it is also about the venue, the soundsystem, the crowd, and the scene. Upon actualizing the many other components of being a DJ and belonging to that world, I started playing in other cities and festivals in Canada, US and Mexico. Initially, I always played sounds and beats that consisted of a basic thump (house, techno and all its derivatives). As my career as a DJ evolved, I realized that playing the “usual” electronic music styles was not enough, this led me to create my own signature style and sound. These days my style is focused on Latin American music, new and old, and the performances feel like a journey through the different cultures of those regions of the world through sound. I find that the ecstatic dance sober events are the types of spaces where I enjoy playing most, as my music style has a deep intention for people to work and process whatever the sound journey inspires them to do so. I have been DJing for ecstatic dances for the past 5-6 years and have learned a variety of approaches and methods to conduct the experiences accordingly. Today my DJing practice comes full circle with my meditation and healing work. When I DJ for an ecstatic dance journey I apply all of these skills in order to create a cohesive and intentional container that allows dancers to connect with themselves through movement and meditation, all in a safe space that also includes the tools and resources to make the most out of the experience.
DRUMMING
As a child I frequently dreamt of being in a tribe together with many family and friends, all drumming together, dancing, celebrating and enjoying existing in this life. As the dreams repeated, it was clear that this was a calling of the universe or my unconscious, and it didn’t stop calling until I started playing hand percussion drums and the drum kit. From that point on, life made sense, I was playing drums and learning how to get into a flow that was so enchanting. I am still here. Through the years of existing as a drummer that practiced and played almost every day, I learned that this flow of rhythm is also very present in all aspects of my life. Through rhythm I flow and assist others in learning how to activate that possibility, so when we get there, the infinite potential of our being comes into harmony with existence. Reach out or stay in tune for drum related offerings, I perform regularly with a variety of projects, I teach hand percussion and the drum kit, I lead different types of drum circles for ceremonies, community gatherings, public jams and performances. I also lead ecstatic dance based drum circles where the drumming fuels up the dancing while using the concepts of the wave from ecstatic dance in order to create that journey of an experience.
As a drummer and hand percussion player I have a diverse background and experience ranging from world music, avant-garde, and most styles played in North American and Latin America. I enjoy adapting and learning from the different musicians I work with from all sorts of backgrounds and levels of experience, and I also appreciate pushing the boundaries of the conventional drum grooves in order to create new and unexpected possibilities.
I have recorded and performed with a variety of acts like: Haxan, Whatz What, Commander Goznales, Hot Pants, Molecular, The Royal Ressistance, Zehel, Paul Colosimo, Gisun, Violeta’s Door and Salola Jamonto (Moctezuma Movement).
